Legislative Information 2006

Each year potential Congressional and state legislative and administrative action presents unique challenges that provide opportunities for us to come together as activist to influence public policy. Grassroots activism is the most influential tactic when it comes to protecting our environment.

This year, we especially need you to help us remind our elected officials that we are following their actions or in-actions.

Legislative Frequently Asked Questions

Nationally we anticipate:

  • Another attempt to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling

  • more attacks on the Endangered Species Act,

  • judicial nominations hostile to environmental protections,

  • and further assault on the Clean Air Act.

In Maine:

Maine is fortunate to have Senators and Congressmen who share our concern for the environment and who listen to their constituents. However, we not only need to let them know how much we appreciate their efforts, we must continue to build on our longstanding relationships.

In Maine, The Land for Maine's Future (LMF) bond will be ramping up again soon and we will need your help organizing in your neighborhoods and at the state house. Lobby Day, scheduled in mid-February, for the Land Bond is a great opportunity speak up for the environment at the state level.

In addition to LMF, we anticipate working to support: the just released Climate Action plan and related energy issues natural Resources Protection: Enforcement/Implementation through our state agencies Water: Androscoggin River/St. Croix dissolved oxygen standard, and Public Health: Lead poisoning prevention
