The Sierra Club Endorsed Kerry/Edwards for President, Congressmen Tom Allen in Maine's 1st District, and Michael Michaud in Maine's 2nd District.

Chapter volunteers will be calling every Sierra Club member in Maine to urge a 100% Get Out The Vote effort.

Although the bulk of our members reside in the southern portion of the state, all polls indicate Kerry in the lead by a wide margin in the 1st congressional district.

Because Maine Electoral Votes can be split, Sierra Club volunteers have an opportunity to make a significant impact on this election by helping John Kerry secure the 2nd congressional district.  We are fortunate to have several Club members dedicating nearly all of their time to assure the district's sole electoral vote - which could swing the entire election .

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Phone Banking  - we want to call all of our members.  There are over 4000 calls to be made.  Call Jed Rathband at 332-1513 to sign for a time slot you can come in to the Portland office or call from your home.

Volunteer in 2nd District

In trying to apply the Sierra Club's efforts in the most effective way for these last two weeks before November 2nd, it appears that the Second District in Maine is the best place to concentrate. To win the Kerry vote in the Waterville area, campaign staffers tell us they need 600 volunteers on Election Day.  600 volunteers!
