From our friends at Maine Council of Churches:

----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

On Saturday, December 3 around the world and in Montreal, people will come together to show that they are united to stop global warming. The rallies take place as the UN Conference of Parties (COP 11) meets in Montreal to determine the future course of the Kyoto Protocol.

WHAT:    Bus trip to Montreal to support the Kyoto Protocol

WHEN:    December 3

TIME:      5:00am-until return

PLACE:   Meet at Marginal Way Park & Ride

COST:      $45, or be a sponsor!

RSVP:      Andy Burt - 882-6848

As citizens of the US and near neighbors of Montreal, we can go in person and show how much we care about this issue. We will join environmentalists, health organizations, people of faith and others gathered in the city for a rally. Already many simultaneous rallies are being organized (even one in Monument Square, Portland) to carry the message USA, Join the World.

I have secured a 29-passenger bus for the trip, which will leave Portland Saturday morning at 5am from Marginal Way Park & Ride, arriving in Montreal at 11am. We will march with others from Dorchester Square to the Complexe Guy Favreau, one block from the UN meetings, where we will hold a rally. We will leave Montreal for the return trip at 5pm, getting back to Portland around 11pm. Cost for a seat on the bus is $45.

If you can't go, but would like to buy a seat for someone else, or assure that the bus will go even if every seat is not taken, I would be grateful. If we fill every seat and there is a little bit of money left, I intend to purchase green tags (wind/solar generated power that's been added to the grid) to offset the greenhouse gases that we will add to the atmosphere with this trip.

This is an important opportunity in our backyard to make a statement to the world and our own government about how critical it is that we act now to curb global warming, for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and future generations of our world neighbors of all species. Please reply immediately to this email or call me at 882-6848 and let me know that you want a seat/will provide $ to help others go. Thank you!

Blessings,

Andy Burt
