PROTECT THE ALLAGASH WILDERNESS WATERWAY Act today! Ask the Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry Committee to oppose LD2077
THE ISSUE Thank you to those who wrote to members of the legislative Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee in opposition to LD 2077 - An Act to Make Adjustments to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. But we still need your voice!
Unfortunately, the committee has voted to support a version of LD 2077, which will undermine years of carefully crafted, consensus based agreements, including the River Drivers Agreement.
The bill is expected to go to the full House and Senate within the next week. We need you to contact your legislators TODAY and urge them to oppose LD 2077.
Deadline for responding: Please take action by Friday, April 14, 2006.
WHAT YOU CAN DO Call the state message lines and urge your legislators to oppose LD 2077.
Ø To leave a message for state senators call 1-800-423-6900. Ø To leave a message for state representatives call 1-800-423-2900.
MESSAGE POINT: Ask your legislator to oppose LD 2077. Maine should uphold the intent of the original Allagash Act to manage the Allagash for "maximum wilderness character" by standing by the 2002 Memo of Agreement and the 2003 River Drivers Agreement.
