10 Year Plan for Maine's Forests Maine’s Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) is in the process of updating its 1997 Comprehensive Land Use Plan. This plan will guide the management of 10.5 million acres of unorganized forestlands for the next 10 years.
During the lengthy review process Sierra Club volunteers and activists spoke out on behalf of a strong management plan for the Maine Woods. The final draft of the plan sets up a good framework to protect the character and natural resources of the unorganized territories.
We are very happy that the final draft of the plan is strong, and if approved will help protect the character of the Maine Woods.
